Welcome to the memorial page for

Olga Marquez

August 8, 2017

Olga Mancha Marquez, a long time resident of San Angelo, Texas, was welcomed to her heavenly home, Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

Born in 1952 in Big Spring, Texas, to Luis and Virginia Mancha, she attended Runnels High School where she met and later married the love her life, Saul Marquez on Sept 27th 1967. They were married forty-nine years until his passing in 2016. Together they raised four children Christopher, Tyna, Crystal and Joseph and in 1991 they along with their children made their home in San Angelo, Texas.

Olga was a talented seamstress and often blessed her children and grandchildren with beautiful, blankets, super capes, and articles of clothing. You could often find her surrounded by her collection of tea sets, sewing and creating for her greatest joys, her grandbabies. She worked at the San Angelo State School as a Therapy Tech for many years. She often spoke about her love of planning activities for her patients and how seeing their excitement at the animal habitats always made her day. She had such a welcoming heart and spirit and often invited people over for holiday meals. She loved good food, loved to cook, often watched old black and white movies, often crafted with her grandchildren and loved the laughter of her family. She always had a bright, welcoming smile for anyone she ever met. In addition to the love she had for her family, she was a woman of strong faith. She often listened to worship music and when able, fellowshipped at her church home where she was lovingly known as ‘Mama Olga’. Daily, she would give thanks for all the Lord had blessed her with. She was a beacon of strength for her children and a wonderful example of compassion and joy to all who were blessed to know her. Olga lived for her family. She loved them fiercely and deeply and was loved as fiercely in return.

Olga is survived by her two daughters, Tyna Marquez of Abilene and Crystal Helfrich of San Angelo, son Joseph and daughter in law Ashlie Fuentes of San Angelo and daughter in law Linda Marquez of Stamford, Texas. Olga is also survived by her greatest joys, her grandbabies; Logan, Nathan, Storey, Drew, Alize, Audrey and Christopher along with her dog Cocoa who was often seen near or beside her. She is also survived by her mother, Virginia Mancha of Big Spring; brothers, Ben Mancha of Big Spring and Louis Mancha of Moore, Oklahoma as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and long time friends.

Olga was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Saul, her father Luis, and her two sons; Saul Marquez Jr., and Christopher Thomas Marquez whom all preceded her in death.  The reunion in heaven must have been spectacular to behold.

At this time the family would like to thank the compassionate nursing staff at Shannon Medical Center for all of their help and support during her lengthy illness. During her many stays, they made her days as bearable as possible and always treated her with incredible kindness and respect.

“Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what’s to be, a resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys. Different paths along the way, we all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, far greater than we know. For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim a great reward, and find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord”.  –Author unknown
