Olivia Martínez Gutiérrez

Olivia Martínez Gutiérrez, 94, went to her heavenly home on Monday, March 5, 2018, two days after her 94th birthday.  A Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 7:00 pm at Gutiérrez Funeral Chapels/Knickerbocker.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10:00 am at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Fr. Joseph Vathalloor, officiating.  Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gutiérrez Funeral Chapels.  Survivors include her two sons, Arnoldo Gutiérrez and wife Ruby, Eddie Gutiérrez and wife Marilyn and daughter Cecilia Meléndez and husband Juan. Grandchildren include, Marco Meléndez, Mario Meléndez, Orlando Cárdenas, Arnoldo "Arnie" Gutiérrez II, Bianca E. Gutiérrez, Marina Gutiérrez, Belinda Gutiérrez, Christopher Gutiérrez and Angie Gutiérrez.  She is preceded in death by her son Mario Alberto Gutiérrez. Olivia was born in Nuevo Repueblo, ejido de Dr. Gonzales, Nuevo León, México on March 3, 1924.  She was raised in Monterrey, NL, Mexico and came to Del Río, Texas at age 18.  She was a professional seamstress.  She worked for several years at the Guarantee in Del Rio.  Upon moving to San Angelo, she worked at Gabriel's Department Store for 27 years before retiring.  Upon her retirement, she devoted much of her time and energy to hand made quilts for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
