Alicia Ramirez Castillo, a longtime resident of Fort Worth, Texas, went home to our Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on November 12, 1940, in Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico to Julia Gutierrez Ramirez and Abdenago Ramirez, she was the youngest child and only daughter of three. Growing up in San Angelo, summers were spent traveling with her family as a migrant field worker, throughout Texas, Idaho and Colorado. As a young adult, she worked at the Cactus Hotel and Shannon Hospital in San Angelo.
On February 23, 1969, Alicia married her “Honey,” Jose Calderon Castillo. Shortly thereafter, Alicia and Joe moved to Dallas before settling in Fort Worth and creating a loving home for their children, Leticia and Patricia Castillo. She stayed at home to raise her daughters for most of their childhood years. Once they were older, she went to work in the cafeteria for Texas Wesleyan University which provided paid tuition for both of her girls to receive their college degrees.
Alicia was a devout Catholic who attended and sang in the choir at Holy Name Catholic Church. In recent years, she enjoyed volunteering at Meadowbrook Poly United Methodist Church with her daughter Patricia. She enjoyed “la wiri wiri” with her close friends, comadres and sisters-in-law who became the sisters God knew she needed. She also enjoyed playing board games, card games and going to bingo but the true loves of her life were her grandchildren, Lilliana and Magito.
Alicia is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Jose Calderon Castillo and her daughter Leticia Castillo Cisneros; by her parents Julia Gutierrez Ramirez and Abdenago Ramirez and by her brother, Gustavo Ramirez.
Alicia is survived by her youngest daughter, Patricia Ramirez Castillo; her granddaughter, Lilliana Mariel Cisneros and her grandson, Mauro Christian Cisneros. She is also survived by her brother, Luis Ramirez and his wife, Angelina Ramirez; her sister-in-law, Rosa Bautista; her brother-in-law, John Castillo and his wife, Consuelo Castillo. Additionally, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends remain to cherish her memory.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels (1002 North Oakes Street). Funeral Mass officiated by Reverand Ryan Rojo at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church (7 W Ave N), followed by the interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery (1501 W. Ave N) in San Angelo, Texas.
