Elvira Martinez Obituary

It is with a broken heart, shattered spirit and overwhelming sadness our family shares the passing of our beloved mother, Elvira Martinez, age 81, of Midland, Texas on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in San Angelo, Texas.

Those who die in grace go no further from us than God and God is very near.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elvira Martinez DeLeon, who passed in San Angelo, Texas, surrounded by her family.

Elvira was born in Palo Blanco, Coahuila, Mexico. At just 21 years old, she came to the United States and began building a life from the ground up. Without knowing the language, she worked tirelessly, raised her family, built a home, and in time became a proud United States citizen.

She shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Ramón Martinez Gloria, with whom she spent 56 years. As a young couple, they built their life together through sacrifice and hard work and faced challenges side by side. Their partnership was rooted in loyalty, resilience, and a shared commitment to their family, and it remained a steady foundation throughout her life.

She spent much of her life in Midkiff and Midland, Texas, where she raised her children, supported her household, and later cared for many, opening her home to the children of working families. She gave endlessly, often with very little, yet somehow there was always enough. Her love was not spoken in grand gestures, but in constancy, in presence, in the certainty that you were cared for.

To her family, she was everything. A woman of deep pride and resilience, she carried more than most, yet remained steadfast, fiercely devoted and unwavering in her love. In her eyes, her children and grandchildren were perfect, and she loved them with a depth that defined who she was. She was there for every moment that mattered, and even in the smallest things, she made her family feel seen and valued.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ramón Martinez Gloria; her beloved son, Jose Angel Martinez, whose life was tragically cut short; and her granddaughters, Ava and Josefina, who passed in infancy.

She is survived by her daughters Elidia, Rosa, Olga, and Olivia, and her sons Jaime and Ramon “Shorty” Jr., as well as her grandchildren Joseph, Julia, Angel, and Marcelino, who were a constant source of light.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 14, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Gutierrez Funeral Chapel in San Angelo, Texas. Following services, she will be taken to Acuña, Mexico, where she will be laid to rest.

Though she loved flowers, she will not be able to take them with her to Mexico. In her honor, the family asks that you plant a rose bush, something that grows, endures, and brings beauty into the world long after it is gone.

She crossed borders not just in distance, but in courage, leaving behind the familiar so that those who came after her might have more. The life she built was never just for herself, but for her children and grandchildren, for their opportunities, their stability, and their future. Her strength became their foundation. Her sacrifices became their possibilities. And though she is gone, the life she made continues to unfold in every generation that follows.

Elvira Martinez DeLeon
