Jose Juan Francisco Martinez Nevares, 69, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on June 28, 2025, surrounded by family.
Francisco, also known as Pancho, was born on February 21, 1956, in Durango, Mexico, to Juan and Esther Martinez. He was one of eight siblings: Lydia, Concha, Manuel, Jenaro, Reveca, Oralia, and Gudelia Martinez, all of whom held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
A loving father and grandfather, Francisco is survived by his children Rudy and Clara Hernandez, and Juan and Amanda Martinez. He was a loving grandfather to Mark Anthony Hernandez and Lydia Hernandez, and a proud great-grandfather to Jesiah Hernandez.
Francisco lived life firmly and on his own terms. A traditional Mexican man through and through, he was strong, prideful, and a dreamer—a man who never let circumstances dictate his spirit.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: music, playing instruments, time with his family, traveling to his hometown in Mexico, avocados, and, of course, a cold beer.
Though he didn't pursue formal titles or accolades, Francisco left behind a legacy of strength, independence, and love for his roots. Though his stories were few and his values not always clearly spoken, they were deeply felt, engraved into the music he loved, and carried forward in the quiet strength, pride, and spirit he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Shannon Oncology team, the compassionate nurses, and the dedicated staff of St. Gabriel's Hospice for their care, kindness, and support during this time.
