Fred Lee Hindman

Fred Lee Hindman was 58 years of age when he passed away on June 20, 2019, in San Angelo, Texas. His closest companion, Christena Parks, was at his side. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.  Fred was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and spent most of his life in Texas. He was most proud and appreciated for his skills as a plumber, competitive shooter, his ability to teach safe and fun firearms use, and for his leadership for twenty-five years as an Officer and President of the San Angelo Gun Club. Evidence that he shared those skills with others remains after his passing. Many homes and businesses in the area were improved with his plumbing help. When he began leadership of the San Angelo Gun Club, it owned half the property of the current facility and had about a tenth of the members as when he left club leadership. There are many safe shooters having fun because of Fred’s influence.  Fred will be deeply missed.  Fred was a congenial, free-spirited, and kindhearted person.  He had many friends from all over the country and internationally through his competitive and shooting referee interactions.  Fred competed in the 2005 IPSC Handgun World Shoot XIV in Guayaqil Ecuador and ranked in the top 50% of the Open division.  Fred was a nationally ranked shooter and his friends believe he is the person referred to by Tom Beckstrand in his article “Precision Rifle Series” included in the Guns and Ammo Guide to Sniping book (page 23) as “an overweight, middle aged plumber”.  Fred could never go anywhere without running into someone he knew.  Fred held a strong Christian faith and freely shared his faith and incredible spiritual experiences with others.  He was generous with his time, skills, and finances to support building the kingdom of God and assisting others.  Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Nadene Leatrice (Glossop) Hindman and Major Patrick Hindman.  He is survived by his dear companion, Christena Parks, and three younger brothers.
