George Zuniga Hernandez, age 78, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas on February 2, 2022. He was a man of faith and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was born in Eola, Texas to parents George and Julia Hernandez, and grew up in San Angelo, Texas.
He was married 58 years to the love of his life, Lucila “Lucy” Aguirre Hernandez, whom he had known since the first grade. George graduated from Central High School in 1962 and after marrying Lucy in 1963, they built their life in San Angelo. He served in the Army Reserves and had a long career at Mitsubishi as lead team member for the interior installation of airplanes. He went on to work for Ethicon and then John Henry Printing at Ethicon from where he retired. He and Lucy moved to San Antonio later in life to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
He loved his family, especially being a grandfather. George was a history buff and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and watching westerns and documentaries, especially wartime films. He was a man of faith actively serving in the church for as long as he was able. He was a member of Segunda Iglesia, and then worshipped regularly at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church when he lived in San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife Lucy Hernandez, daughters Monica Martinez and her husband Sam; Erica Hernandez and her husband David Jaramillo, and their children Dominick “Nick” and Sophia Jaramillo. He is also survived by his sister Lily Flores; brothers Pete Hernandez, his wife Kay; and Joe Hernandez, and his wife Mary; nephews, great-nephews, a niece, great-nieces, cousins, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his infant twin sons Jacob and Gabriel, as well as his brother-in-law Elias Flores, nephews Elias “June” Flores and Edward Hernandez, niece Sylvia Castro, and great-nephew Aaron Hernandez.
The family is thankful to everyone for their support and prayers, and to Judi Harris for helping Lucy care for George.
