Joseph Velez

Joseph Edward Velez (47), of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on March 16, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues.

Joseph was born in San Angelo on March 1, 1976, to Juan & Mary Jane Velez. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1996.  Joseph was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved to share his knowledge of the Cowboys franchise.  Joseph was involved with his children by coaching youth flag football, basketball, and softball.  Throughout his years of coaching, he loved to share his knowledge and love of the game.  He was very passionate and would help anyone in need.  He was a good Dad and a friend and mentor to many.  Joseph was always known for being the life of the party and had everyone around him laughing. He loved hosting BBQs to watch the Dallas Cowboys, any boxing match, or for no reason.  

Joseph is preceeded in death by his father, Juan M. Velez; mother Mary Jane Velez-Ortegon; paternal grandparents Juan and Lionor Velez; paternal uncle, Ventura Velez; maternal grandfather, Victor Samaniego; maternal uncle Lionel Samaniego.

Joseph is survived by the mother of his children Tammy Padron, daughters Darrian (Rudy) Monsivais; Annika Velez (James Ramirez) and son, Joseph E. Velez II; granddaughters Maryjane and Sofia Monsivais, and Penelope Ramirez; sister, Leanora Velez; brother, Juan S. Velez; maternal grandparents Jane and Eulalio Mendez; stepfather, Henry Ortegon; his step-sisters: Melissa and Stacy Ortegon; Stepmother, Laura Greene Velez; his step-brothers; Benjamin, Bert, John Greene, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.

A visitation for Joseph is planned for Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service scheduled at 4:00 P.M. at Gutierrez Funeral Home, 1002 North Oaks in San Angelo, Texas.
