With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Sosa, our loving and devoted mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Margaret was born on December 9, 1934, in San Angelo, Texas to Regino Del Rio and Jovita Ramirez Del Rio. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband, Neri Sosa, Sr. and her son, Louis Sosa.
Margaret was an I.C.U. Licensed Vocational Nurse at Shannon Medical Center until her retirement. Her natural gift was always serving people, which was exemplified through mentoring and being preceptor to many nurses, sharing the wisdom and experience that she gained over the years. Margaret was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect, and true compassion.
Margaret shared with her family and friends that nursing was” my calling”, and during her career she had the honor and privilege to care for patients who were amazing people; they often gave her the strength and courage to get through her journey and the desire to return every day to the work of caring for others. She always shared that her hope was “I am able to give them a fraction of what they gave me.”
Margaret didn't start baking professionally until later in life and eventually established “Cakes by Margaret”. She often stressed that cake was more than just food. It was the centerpiece of an event and the last thing the guests would eat, so it had to be memorable. Margaret shared that creating magical cakes was always a delight and an enormous honor to work with families during life’s moments of joy and celebration.
She loved to dance with her husband, Neri Sr. to “Tejano” music. and sing and be silly with her children. She loved to chat and laugh with family and friends. She was also a proud member of the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart “Guadalupanas”
Margaret will forever be remembered by her children, Neri Sosa, Jr., Albert De Rio, Steve Sosa, Helen Bolen, Phillip Sosa, and Betsy Borsemans.

Nurse’s Prayer.
Give me strength and wisdom when others need my touch; a soothing work to speak to them, their hearts yearn for so much. Give me joy and laughter, to lift a weary soul; pour in me compassion to make the broken whole. Give me gentle healing hands, for those placed in my care; a blessing to those who need me, this is a nurse’s prayer.
