Margarita "Maggie" Abalos Jacobo Obituary

With humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of Margarita Abalos Jacobo (Aunt Maggie) peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, January 15, 2024,

Maggie was born in Rankin, Texas on February 6, 1940, to Francisco Abalos and Margarita Barrera Abalos. She married Benito Montez Jacobo on September 16, 1964.  Maggie leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband, Benito Jacobo and her children, Benito Jacobo Jr., Elizabeth Ann Jacobo and David Jacobo (Laura Portwood Cuellar).  She will lovingly be remembered by her grandchildren Benito Jacobo III (Trey) and Matthew Jacobo.  Maggie rejoins her loved ones, Willie Abalos, Juan Abalos, Pepe Abalos, Manuela Gonzales, Emilia Gonzales, Felicita Gonzales, Juanita Robles, Aurora Stephens, and her parents.  She will be fondly remembered by her brothers, Selso Abalos, of Winnie, Texas and Manuel Abalos of Robert Lee, Texas, and her sisters, Maria Gonzales of El Paso, Texas, Alejandra Purcell of Lancaster, Ohio. She will also be remembered by Conrad Rocha, Krislyn Rocha, and Rueben Rocha.

Maggie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a hard worker and you never saw her sitting around because there was always work to be done.   She loved preparing meals and especially baking for family, church and for many functions that involved family and friends.  Her friends and family benefitted from her home cooked meals. In addition to her abilities in the kitchen, Maggie possessed many other talents including upholstery, sewing, and crocheting.  Maggie’s home was always open to family and friends alike and her numerous nieces and nephews were welcomed with open arms and a plate of home cooking.   Maggie shared many recipes with anyone who asked and would eagerly guide those who wanted to learn to cook.  Maggie was also special to many college students who appreciated a plate of her delicious meals and her words of wisdom.

Maggie spent many years preparing homemade tamales as a member of the Guadalupanas to raise funds for their varied functions.

Maggie’s grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she took great pleasure spending time with them and watching as they matured into young productive adults.  Her best moments were when she prepared their favorite meals and then playing board games afterwards.

In 1990 Maggie and Benito began a venture for her passion of cooking and baking.  They opened a restaurant and named it “Aunt Maggie’s Kitchen”.  Her cooking brought many customers to their place for over 30 years.  They made many lifelong friends during those years. The highlight of a meal at Aunt Maggie’s Kitchen was the surprise dessert after your meal.  She loved baking cakes and pies during the week and who could resist her empanadas on Sundays.

Mom will be dearly missed.  She will be in our hearts, and we will always remember how much she loved us.  Her fighting spirit, fierce love, and tender concern for those around her will be dearly missed.
