Maria de Monserrat Lopez was born February 7th, 1939, in Rio Hondo, Tx. Maria was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend who passed away on December 1st, 2024, she lived 85 years of life to its fullest and made wonderful memories with family and friends. She was married on December 29, 1958, to late Florencio Lopez Sr. Although they divorced neither one remarried. Maria was blessed with four beautiful children, Virginia, Guadalupe, Mark, and Florencio Lopez Jr. Maria was a woman of resilience, class and of natural beauty. Maria had a heart that loved and helped anyone she could. Maria had passion within her heart and had a faith in God that no one can declare untrue. Maria worked briefly as a migrant worker. In the 1970’s Maria was given a dream with a vision from God. Her dream entailed two very special recipes, Sopapillas and Chili Rellenos. Through her determination and faith, she achieved her vision when she opened El Sombrero in 1976. After her divorce from her late ex-husband Florencio Lopez Sr., she left the restaurant in his care along with her youngest son Florencio Lopez Jr. Maria opened other restaurants as well. 1968 El Charro Restaurant in Dimmitt, Texas1980’s El Sombrerito Restaurant in Hart, Texas and was managed by her oldest son Mark Lopez. 1991 The Lopez Cafe was opened in Turkey; Texas she taught her oldest granddaughter Cecilia Balderas how to manage a restaurant and Cecilia was given the details of her visions and dreams and how she would like things carried out in the future. 1998 Los Corazones Restaurant was opened in Lubbock, Texas with the assistance of her daughter Virginia and husband Arnulfo Salazar. During her entrepreneurship with the restaurant business, Maria continued to actively stay busy, and she explored her God given gifts. Maria was very keen, and she excelled at anything she put her mind to. Maria was very skilled in the floral business. She was known for making unique crafts, floral arrangements and casket pieces, working for the Dennis Funeral Home and Dennis Floral Shop in Dimmitt, Texas Maria also obtained her nursing certification and quickly became highly favored as a PCA. Maria enjoyed cooking, music, dancing, fishing, birdwatching and nature itself. She enjoyed feeding the squirrels and loved her cats along with all the other canines her children and grandchildren have. The vision the Lord gave Maria was not just a restaurant but a place for her to minister to those in need. Her work was not in vain, for many generations were changed because of her obedience to the voice of God. Her legacy will carry on from generation to generation. God's Promises Genesis 17:7 Maria was predeceased in death by, her parents six sisters and five brothers Maria is survived by her two sisters Fabiana Flaco and Elida Garza Maria's children and grandchildren Virginia and Arnulfo Salazar, Cecilia and Thomas Balderas, Pearl and Raul Ortiz, Sarah Salazar, Gabriel and Cristal Salazar Guadalupe Lopez Rodriguez, Jacob and Rachel Rodriguez, Rocio and Manuel Morales, Jose Vicente Rodriguez, Mark Lopez, Veronica and Marcus Oviedo. Floyd Lopez Jr, Marco Lopez, Aaron and Gabrielle Lopez. 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great grand-children and one on the way. Maria was blessed to get the news prior to her parting.
