On July 24 ,2025, Maria de la Luz Torres Perez , of San Angelo, Texas, passed from this life into eternal life at the age of 99. Luz was born at home in Concheno, Chihuahua, Mexico to Leonardo Torres and Angela Perez Torres on February 4, 1926, joining her older siblings Amalia, Clotilde, Gildardo, Leonardo, Alfredo, and Francisca. Luz's younger sister Angela was born a few years later. Luz and her sister Fransisca worked in Chihuahua as seamstresses. They were masters at their skill and sewed complete dresses without technology or even printed patterns. In 1971 Luz married Jose Arnoldo Perez in Chihuahua Mexico. Arnoldo was a widower and with two children of his own, Jo Ann Perez Mitchell and Jonathan Perez. Luz moved to Big Spring, Tx where Arnoldo and his children lived. In 1980 the couple moved to San Angelo Texas, where Arnoldo continued his insurance sales. They worshipped at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Upon Arnoldo's passing in 2007, her sister Francisca moved in. This began their Dynamic Duo Era. Memories range from their arguments, domino games, great nieces and nephews stopping by for tea and cookies, and their infamous fig tree. A heartfelt thank you to her nieces, Renee Caldwell and Bertha Trevino, who cared for their Tia Luz. As well as the staff at Park plaza nursing home where they knew her as the feisty Maria. . Luz was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings of Chihuahua, Mexico, her sister Francisca Perez Torres of San Angelo, and her husband Jose Arnoldo Perez of San Angelo. She is survived by her sister Angela Perez of San Angelo, her stepdaughter JoAnn Mitchell and husband Rick Mitchell of California, her stepson Jonathan Perez and his wife Luna Perez of Virginia. 4 stepgrandchildren; Jason Rodriguez, Joseph Rodriguez, Mark Moran, and Alessandra Perez; 7 step great grandchildren; Carmen Rodriguez, Ian Rodriguez, Dean Rodriguez, Camille Rodriguez, Riley Moran, Sadie Moran, and Maverick Moran, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Service will begin at 2pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Gutierrez Funeral Chapel North in San Angelo TX to include visitation and rosary. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jason Rodriquez, Rick Mitchell, Alexander Caldwell, Richard Perez, Chris Chappa, and Pete Chappa.
