The Lord spoke to the heavy hearts that stood with hats in hand, and said I needed one more cowboy and Oscar fit right in. Oscar passed from this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas. His days in the saddle are done.
Oscar was born on August 13, 1954, to Cecil Samaripa and Cruz Martinez Samaripa in San Angelo, Texas.
There is nothing quite like the bond between a horse and his rider. It defined who Oscar was and putting that love and feeling into words is difficult, especially when someone has never had that bond. Oscar loved his horses and the touch of a warm nose on him always brought a smile and the thunder of his hooves as they rode through the shoot during roping events. In addition to his love of horses and roping, Oscar excelled in the sport of baseball, having played for the Central High School baseball team as well as for the Southside Lions.
Oscar will be forever loved and forever remembered by his son, Oscar Samaripa, Jr. and wife, Gladys, as well as his sister, Irma S. Jaques. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Omar Samaripa, and Oliana Samaripa. Oscar was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Cruz Samaripa and brother, Cecil Samaripa, Jr.
Oscar’s fighting spirit, fierce love for horses and roping, and concern for those around him will be dearly missed and his friends stand with hats in hands to bid him fond goodbyes.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned.
