Rose Pena-Valencia, a devoted mother, memaw, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 1, 1965, in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in the small town of Mertzon, Rose’s heart was always rooted in family, faith, and the simple joys of life. Rose spent much of her professional life doing clerical work in both San Angelo and San Antonio, but her true calling was in nurturing others. She was a mother not only to her own children, but to anyone who needed care, guidance, or simply a warm meal and a listening ear. She is survived by her loving children: Jay Reyes and his wife Felicia, along with their three children—J3, Zoey, and Landon; Matt Reyes and his wife Taylor, and their daughter Chandler; and Chelsi Gandy and her husband Josh, and their daughter Brooklyn. Her legacy of love and devotion continues through each of them and her beloved grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Rose never missed a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines, always the loudest and most supportive voice in the crowd. Rose is also survived by her siblings, Sylvia, Joe, Sally, and Jr; as well as many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and who brought her great joy throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Cornelio and Manuela Valencia, and her brother Fabian. Her passions were simple yet profound: her family, her faith, and the joy of togetherness. She found happiness in outdoor adventures like fishing, in cooking meals that brought people together, and in cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Music and dancing, especially to 90s country, lit her spirit and filled her home with laughter and life. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 16th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gutierrez Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow on Saturday at 10:00 AM, also at Gutierrez Funeral Home. After the service, family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life lunch, details to come, where we’ll continue to honor and remember Rose with love, stories, and togetherness. Her warmth, strength, and selfless love will live on in the hearts of all she touched.
