Sharon Maxwell Obituary

Sharon Maxwell, former resident of Lake Bridgeport, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas where she spent her last months of life under the care of her cherished daughter and caregiver, Skyla.

Sharon was born in Abilene, Texas in 1952 and was the youngest of three sisters. It was there that she found her love for animals and cared for her childhood horse.

Sharon spent much of her life driving a semi truck around the continental United States and through much of Texas. Throughout her life, she visited forty-nine states of our great nation. One of her proudest accomplishments was hauling part of the space shuttle, the Enterprise, as one of very few women truck drivers of that time. Her tiny 4’11” frame never held her back working in a man’s industry. She was also very proud of the time when she spent as a dog handler, showing Beagles and Basset Hounds for the American Kennel Club (AKC).

In her retirement, she moved to the lake to spend all of her time on the water, fishing with her little dog, CheeWee.

Sharon was an artist, an adventurer, a truck driver, an animal lover, and a won’t-take-any-nonsense-from-anyone kind of woman. She never met a stranger and could talk to anyone in the grocery store. She enjoyed crafting, making things look pretty and spending time with her friends around a campfire.

She is survived by her children: Bryan Marlin (Stacy) of Garland, Skyla Vickers (Maurice) of Christoval and Megan Godoy (Jose) of Decatur. Her grandchildren: Todd Marlin, Haley, Jacie and Nathaniel Vickers, and Lucy and Ruth Godoy along with a great grandson, Oliver, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful companion, CheeWee.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Berdice Buchanan, father, Luis Haren and sisters: Jean Courtney and Wilma Delayne McDonald.

Her Life Celebration will be held at Wise County Park on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Please contact the family for more information.

May her memory be for a blessing.
