Virginia Vargas Obituary

Virginia Galindo Vargas was born to Pedro and Margarita Galindo of Fort Stockton, Texas on January 28, 1940, something (1946), and was about 70ish years young….we think. Two things about our Mom: 1st. Do not ever say she’s “old.” 2nd. She always fibbed about her age to my sister and I; so, from what we can gather, and calculate, she was 29 or possibly 30 when she passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas.

Mom had battled many health issues in the last few years, but still remained a loyal employee to Wal-Mart where she processed freight up until her retirement last January 2021. She often joked (but not really joking) that she was the best processor and no kid there could beat her. She was very accurate about that.

Prior to her health issues, she was quite a character, humorous, avid music lover and very devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, her entire life. Naturally, I would love to test her knowledge on things such as music and sports (and patience) by telling her how horrible the Cowboys were and that my favorite teams were the Saints and anyone that played the Cowboys. She would not back down from a meme war, and often would pull the “I gave birth to you so stop” card, so I would have to concede.

Our mothers love of music ranged from Mexican Rancheras, to heavy metal, and back to Christian music. I vividly remember casually mentioning that we were going to see Guns and Roses, to which her reply was “wow, that is so cool, man.” I tested her by asking, “well, ma’am, which are your favorite songs? Name 2.” Quickly she responded in her Spanglish, “Pues esa del Jungle, y la otra, Sweet Child….. der.” Yep, that was mom.

She had many loves in her life: God, live music, dancing, her dogs, sweets, stray cats, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren…and at times in this order.

Virginia was a spitfire to the end, and we knew it would be this way. She leaves behind her husband, Rodrigo Vargas, San Angelo; two daughters; Gracie Garcia & husband Hector Garcia, of San Antonio; Monique Brown & husband Danny Brown of San Angelo; grandchildren, Alexis Zepeda of San Angelo, Allyssa Escalera and Michael Escalera II of San Antonio; Sydney Sanchez, Camille Sanchez, Rudy Sanchez III, and Sebastian Hill, all of San Angelo; and 7 great-grandchildren. brothers Joel Galindo and Roy Galindo of Ft. Stockton: and many of her extended family and friends that she loved dearly.

Virginia was met at the Pearly Gates by her parents, Pedro and Margarita Galindo, and her beautiful sister Manuela Galindo Garcia.
